The concept of the Garden School is rooted in a philosophical approach to architectural education — emphasizing ecological and social responsibility and providing adaptable spaces for diverse processes and tasks.

The shape of the building helps to create a comfortable environment both inside and outside, responsive to its context. Once the functional blocks, landscaping, and vegetation layout were finalized, the building orientation was adjusted to minimize solar exposure and wind impact.

Biophilic design is a key sustainability element. Our focus was on a synthesis of architecture and nature to offer a nurturing space for students and staff. The design incorporates natural elements like vegetation, water, and locally sourced materials. Solar panels help reduce environmental impact while fostering an inspiring educational setting.

The facade features rotatable ceramic panels, creating a dynamic surface that changes appearance based on sunlight and time of the day. These panels offer climate protection and boost energy efficiency. Vertical greenery improves the urban environment and enhances comfort around the building.

Recognizing the high cost of architectural education, we designed a building with flexible usage scenarios: a studio for real projects, a lab accessible to the local community, and a “school within a school” where university students teach children and teenagers. This supports space transformation and promotes collaboration inside and beyond the university.

The composition of volumes, light, materials, bridges, and viewpoints is a learning tool, offering students a way to experience architectural language firsthand. Movable partitions in classrooms allow the configuration of open or private spaces to suit learning needs.

The university also includes community-accessible areas: a library, 3D modeling classrooms, a multifunctional hall, and a cafeteria. These spaces are open to all — regardless of age or profession — becoming venues for exhibitions, concerts, and cultural events, transforming the university into a social and cultural hub.

Architecture is a continuation of our thinking. In universities, it must stimulate creativity and a spirit of exploration.
