The task was to redesign the facade of the sports centre located within the school campus in Sokolniki. Originally constructed with an extremely simplified white facade, the building no longer met the client’s functional and aesthetic expectations.

Several options were proposed, and the final chosen solution was a ventilated (curtain) facade system. The chosen option allowed for emphasising the building’s volume and imparting a sense of dynamism, while creating a harmonious appearance that visually resonates with Sokolniki Park.

Additionally, a similar solution - green ventilated panels - is used on another Heritage School facility, establishing a unified visual concept across the school’s buildings.

The chosen facade in the daylight

The use of perforated fibre-cement panels ensures that the facades are equally expressive in both daylight and evening conditions. During the day, the architecture reads as balanced and restrained through precise work with proportions, while at night, artificial lighting becomes a key design element, transforming the facade and enhancing its depth and dynamism.

The chosen facade in the twilight

This project demonstrates how a holistic and design-driven approach allows us not only to address the client’s brief, but to go beyond it—enhancing the architectural quality and long-term value of the building.
