MIR School in Dobrograd is the second stage in the city’s educational ecosystem. The project is based on the idea of gradual growing-up, with the environment transforming alongside the child's age and needs. The design concept revolves around nature, reflected in the choice of finishes and color palette.

An important condition in the project implementation was working within the existing budget.

Recreational spaces serve educational functions: in the primary school, they support play and movement; in middle and high school, they accommodate project-based and independent work.

The school includes a large library that also functions as a coworking space, and an assembly hall that can be used as a recreational area, dance hall, rehearsal room, or lecture venue.

In primary classrooms, the back of the room serves not only for storage but also as a cozy space for sitting in a semicircle to listen to a story or lecture, with a carpet, cushions, and shelving. The space is highly flexible.

Specialized classrooms in the middle and high school follow the same principle of easy transformation. Each has its own color code for intuitive navigation.

Our task is to turn constraints into opportunities. For example, by unlocking access to an assembly hall that otherwise sits unused, a school creates additional opportunities for creativity — for both students and teachers.

The elementary school cafeteria (50 seats) is located on the first floor, while the middle and high school cafeteria (100 seats) is on the second. Each serves children in two staggered shifts. The cafeterias feature vandal-resistant materials and a variety of textures to shift attention away from gadgets and toward the surrounding environment, building a tactile connection with the space.

The sports area includes a field with optional equipment and a multi-use court that doubles as an ice rink in winter. The elementary school playground features play elements like nest swings and cubes for 3D movement. An outdoor stage with a hill and benches supports lessons and events in the open air. The site also includes a vegetable garden and greenhouse.

The project focuses on creating an environment that adapts to educational needs, supports play and movement, and fosters collaborative creativity. Thanks to the involvement of children and the emphasis on adaptability, the school became not just a place for learning, but also a platform for experimentation and growth.

The landscaping at MIR School is an example of an efficient and creative approach to space design within a limited budget — enabling the implementation of minimal but sufficient infrastructure for a quality outdoor environment.
