The School in Stary Oskol is the heart of the neighborhood — a place where education is combined with a sense of comfort and safety. The project is based on the idea that a school should is not just a place for learning, but a second home for the student.

The core concept centers around a flexible environment suited to students of all ages and capable of adapting to various educational scenarios and needs.

The waiting area is designed like a modern street café. As a signature element, a coffee cart replaces the traditional counter. Parents can wait in comfort — drink coffee, work, or socialize. Visitor areas also include dedicated restrooms with a changing table. The entry zone is in line with the school’s general design principles — natural tones and materials, multifunctionality, and openness.

The elementary school recreation area is primarily a space for movement. It includes zones for drawing, working with large building blocks, small theatrical performances, and opportunities to retreat while remaining under teacher supervision.

It’s important to use the right finishing materials so the school doesn’t require constant updates. For example, materials used in airports and other high-traffic spaces. It doesn’t significantly impact the construction budget, but it does require detailed design work.

Ildar Nafikov, Founder of Heritage International School and La Berezka Academy

The upper school recreation area is a space for socializing, project presentations, and collaboration. It was designed as a place where students can meet, share ideas, and bring them to life. The arts and science wing features an art installation symbolizing the school's creative potential.

In elementary classrooms, soft blue and beige wood-textured furniture dominate. Accent elements include a deep blue sofa and carpet, and yellow pillows. The space is suitable for various lesson formats.

Special attention was paid to middle and upper school classrooms. Each has a unique color palette to create specific atmospheres for different types of lessons. The design also considers the needs of neurotypical students.

Multifunctionality is key to efficient use of space. For instance, the elementary school hall is primarily for active events, yoga, and dance, but can also host performances thanks to a folding wall and retractable amphitheater.

Shared recreation areas are designed for school-wide assemblies, group activities, individual work, rest, or informal interactions.

Extensive use of plants in interiors helps children connect with nature and reduces stress.

The sports block combines color accents with neutral white surfaces. Bright, vivid colors energize the gym, while calm, deep tones in the pool promote relaxation. Structural elements are exposed and integrated into the design.

Educational spaces are a tool for change, so it's crucial to design with care for all participants — not only children but also teachers, parents, and staff.
